As we reflect over the past few years in Taupo we cannot help but marvel at the
continuing strength of our local Real Estate market. While many parts of New
Zealand have enjoyed buoyant times along with slower periods, it seems that
buyers in large numbers are still discovering the wonders of our area and are
showing a staunch confidence in Taupo’s future by investing and moving here.
Harveys have also experienced a strong demand for holiday homes for purchasers to either enjoy for themselves or rent out to the droves of visitors that head into the town for the many events that are held in Taupo throughout the year. Many major national and international events are already booked on promoters
calendars well into the future.

POPULATION:

The district population is 33,900 residents with 22,100 in Taupo Town (estimated 2005) and 11,800 in the surrounding areas. The population swells to an estimated 60,000 people in peak holiday periods particularly in January.

EMPLOYMENT:

Tourism is the largest industry and brings in over $396 million to the district per year. Tourism provides 21% of all jobs. Forestry and associated industry is also a major source of employment in the area. Unemployment is very low in the area and sat below 1% in 2005.

Naturally none of us know the future values of the Real Estate market, however we know that Taupo is one of the most sought after regions in New Zealand and the market has remained steady and buoyant in comparison with other provincial towns and cities. Harveys Taupo office has been the TOP SALES OFFICE within the Harveys network every year this century, and a contributing factor in that achievement has been the consistency of the Taupo Real Estate market.

There is little doubt that Taupo will continue to thrive and grow, as it is one of the most spectacular and economically sound areas of New Zealand. From summer through to winter our sales graphs illustrate year round activity, unlike many of the major cities which experience fluctuations as their inhabitants flock to national holiday destinations such as Taupo during the many long weekends and regular school holiday breaks.
